Sangria (refreshing fruit drink)

In a large glass pitcher, arrange a variety of fresh seasonal fruit, such as lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit cubes, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, grapes, nectarines, etc. Create your own combination of fruit.

Keep the size of the pitcher and the amount of fruit in mind so that there is still enough room for the wine.

Mix 750ml of good-quality red wine with 2 tablespoons sugar (or honey), 30ml lime juice, 60ml rum, and a cinnamon stick or few pinches ground cinnamon (to taste, but not too much). Skip adding cinnamon for non spicy aroma. Pour the mixture over the fruit and leave it to infuse in the refrigerator overnight.

The next day, serve the sangria. Place several ice cubes (or crushed ice) in each glass, pour in the sangria, and add some pieces of fruit. Be sure to provide a small spoon so that guests don't have to fish the fruit out with their fingers.

For a "light" sangria, choose fruit in lighter colors, such as oranges, lemons, limes, peaches, grapes, apples, etc. Mix white wine with 2 tablespoons sugar (or honey), pour over the fruit. When serving, add a few fresh mint leaves to each glass, as they make a very attractive garnish.

To make a refreshing, non-alcoholic drink that children can enjoy as well, pour soda water or tonic water over the fruit. Add freshly squeezed lemon, lime, or grapefruit juice to taste.
